Private ACT tutoring. In Midtown Manhattan or online, anywhere in the country.

Top scores don’t happen by accident.

Kent Prep has prepared students for college entrance exams since 1989, and the ACT has been part of that work the entire time. The method is not complicated: repetition, measurement, and correction, run often enough that patterns become visible.

Measure often. One practice test tells you very little. We test repeatedly under timed conditions and score by question type, until the data shows which errors are recurring, which are noise, and whether last month’s fix held.

Explain from inside the test. Our instructors have taught this exam for decades. When a student misses a question, the explanation covers why the ACT asks it that way and what the wrong answers were built to catch.

Material ready when it is needed. Our practice library is organized by question type, so when the data surfaces a weakness the drilling material is in hand that night.

Our office is at 230 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. Because tutoring also runs live online, we work with students anywhere in the United States.

Should your student take the SAT or the ACT?

Colleges accept both equally, so the only question is which one your student will score higher on. That gap is often large enough to change which colleges are realistic.

Take the ACT if your student reads quickly and works with confidence. The ACT runs about 57 seconds per question against roughly 82 on the SAT. A fast reader finishes with time to check, and the pace never becomes the problem.

Take the ACT if adaptive testing rattles them. The SAT adapts between modules, and once a module is submitted it cannot be revisited. The ACT is linear, and still offered on paper as well as digitally.

Take the SAT if your student is careful rather than fast. A student who reads closely and needs time to settle into a section usually does better with the longer per-question allowance.

Science is a separate decision. The ACT’s Science section is optional, chosen at registration. Skip it and the Composite reflects only English, Math and Reading.

We do not guess at this. Your student sits a full-length mock ACT with us at no charge, and we read it against their SAT performance.

Private ACT tutoring: What the Hour includes

Subject specialists, not generalists. English, Math and Reading are taught by instructors who teach that subject exclusively. A student works with the person who knows their weakest section best, rather than one tutor stretched across all of them.

Unlimited mock exams. Full-length, proctored, scored by question type, as often as a student can usefully take one. No per-exam fee and no cap. Repetition is how pacing gets fixed, and charging for it would discourage the thing that works.

Academic counseling included. A Kent counselor works alongside the tutors on test dates, whether to retake, whether to sit Science, and how the score fits the school list. That conversation is part of the hour, not billed separately.

Tutoring is $350 per hour. Fill out the interest form to get started
